Jeuveau™ (NEWTOX) in Albuquerque, New Mexico

Injectable neurotoxins are the #1 cosmetic treatment in the United States, and it’s no wonder: they’re famously good at smoothing frown lines, crow’s feet, and other expression lines that unfairly age our faces. And now, Dr. Lui has a brand new option to meet your needs right here at Elite MD in Albuquerque, called Jeuveau™!

Jeuveau™ is an injectable botulinum toxin that is FDA approved for cosmetic treatment of glabellar lines (a.k.a. frown lines). Dubbed as the “NEWTOX”, this alternative to BOTOX achieves very similar results: wrinkles are greatly diminished and patients enjoy a better refreshed appearance for 3 to 4 months.

Jeuveau™ vs. BOTOX
The main difference between Jeuveau™ and BOTOX (and other BOTOX alternatives) is the formulation of the botulinum toxin. Jeuveau™ (prabotulinumtoxinA-xvfs) is purified using a unique, proprietary “Hi Pure” technology. It is also vacuum dried rather than freeze dried, which is thought to reduce breakdown of proteins in the product and preserve more of the active ingredients. Additionally, while BOTOX is FDA approved to treat a variety of concerns such as excessive sweating, Jeuveau™ was designed solely as a cosmetic medication.

Jeuveau™ is very similar to Botox, which is a proprietary type of neuromodulator. They are both derived from the same bacteria and work similarly to improve the appearance of lines and creases on the face. Both have a similar onset of effect and a similar duration of results. Both treatments can also be used on many different areas of the face. Currently Jeuveau™ is FDA approved only for treatment of glabellar creases (the lines between the eyebrows). It can be safely used “off label” for other areas as Botox was for many years. Botox has received FDA approval for use on many areas of the face such as glabellar lines, crow’s feet, forehead lines, neck bands, teeth grinding and chin dimpling to name a few.

Jeuveau™ works in the same manner as Botox and Dysport. Jeuveau™ is used to treat, control, prevent and temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe lines on the face. In the end, Jeuveau™ and BOTOX work almost exactly the same for treating expression lines, although Dr. Lui does see slight variation in results for certain patients—just as She does with Dysport and Xeomin.

Choosing one brand of neuromodulator over another is a decision based on the patient’s goals and the administering clinician’s experience and preference. At Elite MD of New Mexico, Dr. Lui is comfortable with all FDA approved neuromodulators and will work closely with you to determine which treatment option will achieve optimal results for you.

If you have been satisfied with the results of your Botox treatments, then there is no clinical reason to switch. However, if you are looking to try something new, the results of Jeuveau™ should be comparable to what you have experienced with Botox.

You can have Jeuveau™ injected by Dr. Lui at Elite MD of Albuquerque, New Mexico even if you have had Botox treatments in the past. Jeuveau™ is simply a new type of neuromodulator treatment which works similarly to Botox.

Here at Elite MD in Albuquerque, Jeuveau™ costs roughly the same as the other neurotoxins. The exact total cost for any patient depends on the overall treatment plan and goals. Dr Lui will provide a detailed price quote at your consultation, before you commit to treatment.

How do Jeuveau™ injections work?
Jeuveau™ injections for frown lines are just like any BOTOX, Dysport, or Xeomin treatment for the same purpose. After reviewing your goals and numbing the area with ice, Dr. Lui, MD will inject small amounts of Jeuveau™ into the specific muscles above the eyes that are responsible for frown lines. Treatment takes about 10 to 15 minutes total.

Effects are visible within the first five days for most patients, with final results appearing within two weeks after treatment. If you are planning treatment in preparation for a special event, Er. Lui recommends scheduling your Jeuveau™ (or any neurotoxin) session at least one to two weeks in advance.

Results of Jeuveau™ typically last three to four months before fading. Scheduling follow-up treatments in this time window or as necessary can help you maintain your results.

There is no downtime after Jeuveau, but mild, temporary redness, bruising, and swelling at the injection site is common. These effects typically disappear within a few days. If you are worried about a “frozen face” after Jeuveau, you can avoid this unwanted effect by choosing an experienced, trained Jeuveau™ injector, like Dr Judy, Lui, MD here at Elite MD. Dr. Lui has undergone extensive training in all of her injectable products.

Whether you are a BOTOX regular or considering your very first injectable treatment, Dr Lui welcomes you to call to set up a consultation with her. She will listen to your concerns and goals, answer your questions, and help you decide if Jeuveau™ or another treatment option is right for you. Frequently Asked Questions

What areas of the face can be treated with Jeuveau?
Jeuveau™ was formally studied and shown to be effective to treat glabellar lines (lines between the eyebrows – the “11’s.”). However it can be safely used “off label” to address forehead lines, crow’s feet, upper lip lines, frown lines, teeth grinding and neck bands.

What areas of the body can be treated with Jeuveau?
Though it would be “off-label,” Jeuveau™ can be used to treat any area that Botox or Dysport has been used since Jeuveau™ is the same class of neuromodulator.

Is there downtime with Jeuveau?
There is no downtime with Jeuveau, just as there is none with Botox. There is always a risk of a small bruise at the injection site, however, this is unusual. The majority of patients do not look like they have had any treatment minutes after our providers complete injections.

How long does it take to see the results of Jeuveau?
Patients can see an improvement in lines and creases as early as 2 to 3 days, although it can take up to 7 to 10 days to see the final outcome.

How long does Jeuveau™ last?
Similar to Botox, Jeuveau™ lasts several months, and most patients will experience from 3 to 5 months of longevity.

Why does Jeuveau™ last longer in some people?
The duration of effect is dependent on a few factors, including an individual’s muscle mass and metabolism. In some people, Jeuveau™ does not last as long because they have greater muscle mass and metabolize the drug more quickly. Also, the dose administered (“how many units”) plays a role in longevity.

How much does Jeuveau™ cost?
The cost of the treatment is very similar to Botox or Dysport and heavily dependent on the number of units required to treat the desired areas. Following a full evaluation, but prior to undergoing treatment, pricing will be discussed with you by Dr. Lui. If you’ve had prior Botox treatment, the number of units of Jeuveau™ required will be the same as your Botox formula.
